How to Connect to My Canon MX880 Printer Wirelessly

You can print your documents using the Canon MX880 series printer using a wired connection or a wireless connection, but you can't print using both connections at the same time. To print wirelessly, you need a wireless network because direct, ad-hoc connections are not supported. The wireless network must be configured and the computer must be connected to the network before you attempt to connect to the printer.

Setting Up the Printer

Step 1

Press the "Setup" button on the printer and use the "Left" and "Right" arrow keys to highlight "Wireless LAN Setup." Press "OK."

Step 2

Highlight "Yes" and press "OK" to activate the Wireless LAN function. The Wi-Fi LED turns blue when the Wireless LAN is activated.

Step 3

Highlight "Easy Setup" and press "OK." Select the name of your wireless network and press "OK."

Step 4

Press "OK" to enter editing mode, enter the password for the wireless connection and then press the left "Function" button. To switch to the alphanumeric keyboard when typing the password, press the center "Function" button.

Step 5

Press the left "Function" button after you ensure the password is correct. Press "OK" when you see the "Connected to the access point" message.

Installing Drivers and Connecting to the Printer

Step 1

Insert the CD that came with the printer into the optical drive. If the setup program does not start automatically, open the CD drive in File Explorer and double-click the "Msetup4.exe" file.

Step 2

Click the "Easy Install" button to install the software automatically.

Step 3

Click "Install," then click the "Use the printer with wireless LAN connection" radio button and click "Next."

Step 4

Click "Yes" to accept the License Agreement. Click "Yes" to agree to the Adobe RGB License Agreement.

Step 5

Click "Next" if you see the Please Allow All Install Wizard Processes screen. Click "Next" to start searching for the printer.

Step 6

Select "Canon MX880 series" from the Detected Printers list and click "Next." Click "Complete" to finish the setup and close the wizard. The connection to the printer is established, so you can select it when you want to print a document.
